Toroidal Orientifolds in IIA with General NS-NS Fluxes

چکیده
Type IIA toroidal orientifolds offer a promising toolkit for model builders, especially when one includes not only the usual fluxes from NS-NS and R-R field strengths, but also fluxes that are T-dual to the NS-NS three-form flux. These new ingredients are known as metric fluxes and non-geometric fluxes, and can help stabilize moduli or can lead to other new features. In this paper we study two approaches to these constructions, by effective field theory or by toroidal fibers twisted over a toroidal base. Each approach leads us to important observations, in particular the presence of D-terms in the four-dimensional effective potential in some cases, and a more subtle treatment of the quantization of the general NS-NS fluxes. Though our methods are general, we illustrate each approach on the example of an orientifold of T /Z4.

Aspects of Stability and Phenomenology in Type IIA Orientifolds with Intersecting D6-branes
Intersecting branes have been the subject of an elaborate string model building for several years. After a general introduction into string theory, this work introduces in detail the toroidal and ZN -orientifolds. The picture involving D9-branes with B-fluxes is shortly reviewed, but the main discussion employs the T-dual picture of intersecting D6-branes. The derivation of the R-R and NS-NS ta...
متن کاملFluxes, moduli fixing and MSSM-like vacua in Type IIA String Theory
We review some of the features of Type IIA compactifications in the presence of fluxes. In particular, the case of T /(Ω(−1)Lσ) orientifolds with RR, NS and metric fluxes is considered. This has revealed to possess remarkable properties such as vacua with all the closed string moduli stabilized, null or negative contributions to the RR tadpoles or supersymmetry on the branes enforced by the clo...
متن کاملD-Terms from Generalized NS-NS Fluxes in Type II
Orientifolds of type II string theory admit a certain set of generalized NS-NS fluxes, including not only the three-form field strength H , but also metric and non-geometric fluxes, which are related to H by T-duality. We describe in general how these fluxes appear as parameters of an effective N = 1 supergravity theory in four dimensions, and in particular how certain generalized NS-NS fluxes ...
متن کاملStandard-like Models as Type IIB Flux Vacua
We construct new semi-realistic Type IIB flux vacua on Z2 × Z2 orientifolds with threeand fourStandard Model (SM) families and up to three units of quantized flux. The open-string sector is comprised of magnetized D-branes and is T-dual to supersymmetric intersecting D6brane constructions. The SM sector contains magnetized D9-branes with negative D3-brane charge contribution. There are large cl...
متن کاملInflationary Constraints on Type IIA String Theory
We prove that inflation is forbidden in the most well understood class of semi-realistic type IIA string compactifications: Calabi-Yau compactifications with only standard NS-NS 3-form flux, R-R fluxes, D6-branes and O6-planes at large volume and small string coupling. With these ingredients, the first slow-roll parameter satisfies ǫ ≥ 27 13 whenever V > 0, ruling out both inflation (including ...
